The Shoemakers Prayer by Amigos de Fray Martin

A holy and humble shoemaker used to pray in the morning, at midday and in the evening. He didn't feel able or confident enough to make up his own prayers to the Lord, so he always used a well worn prayer book. On a journey one day he felt disappointed because he had forgotten his prayer book and it was time for prayer. And so he knelt, turned to the Lord and said "Please forgive me Lord because I need to pray and I don't know how. But you are my God who loves me and I am going to recite the alphabet, from a-z, a number of times. You are wise and good and you can put the letters together and in that way you will be able to know my prayer and what I want to say." The story goes that on that day the Lord called his angels together in Heaven and told them how moved he was by the prayer of the shoemaker. It was the most beautiful prayer he had heard in a long time, a humble, trusting, sincere and loving prayer - the kind of prayer which works miracles.
