‘They have lost the run of themselves.’ ~Old Saying
Many of our old sayings are very interesting and always have some meaning. Behind the above saying is the idea that someone has forgotten their basic essentials. They have forgotten their values, their background and have forgotten their real selves. We might know of someone whom this applies to but on occasions we too forget the run of ourselves. We simply forget the really important and essential things in life. All of us are pilgrims on a journey. We sometimes forget that we are only passing through this world, that we are fragile and limited. We are not invincible. God wants us to do one thing each day and that is simply to learn to be ourselves. It’s a great way of connecting with God and every time we do it, we most certainly have not forgotten the run of ourselves.
