It’s that time of year when secondary schools are holding their Graduation Ball often known as ‘The Debs’. Last evening it was the turn of Col√°iste An Phiarsaigh, Glanmire. Bob McGrath, R√≥is√≠n Lucey, Conor Daly, Rachel Ahern, Kevin Ahern and Cara Jane Robertson are looking their best before they headed off.

‘It always helps to have a bit of prayer in your back pocket. At the end of the day, you have to have something and for me that is God. God has been good to me. My faith has been good to me in the moments of deepest suffering, doubt and fear. It is a constant, the language of prayer.’ ~Pierce Brosnan

The image of a back pocket is a good one. It may not be the most used pocket but it is always there, always within reach and handy to put little bits and pieces in or out. Likewise anything big or heavy is not suitable. Prayer most certainly fits into a back pocket. While you may not use it often, you know it’s there and always within reach. It is a constant companion during the good days but also during the days when we are surrounded by doubt, frustration and darkness. Prayer helps us to reach out to God, to connect to the greatest source of energy around us. One doesn’t need to be an expert to pray, only a willingness to try and to know that your back pocket is always within reach.
