It may be last rose of summer but also of the year. This rose was still bursting with promise despite the time of year. With the first frosts of the autumn forecasted this week across Ireland, the cycle of many flowers will come to an end.

‘It is better to want what you have than to have what you want.’ ~Proverb Quote

There is a story told about a King who had planted a beautiful garden and one day he walked round it to see how everything was growing. To his disappointment he found that all the things he had so lovingly nurtured were complaining. “If only I were strong and sturdy like the oak tree”, moaned the cedar tree. “Why can’t I be upright like the cedar?” asked the vine. “If only I could bear luscious grapes like the vine”, sighed the rose bush. Eventually the King came to a solitary daisy with its face open to the sun. “Well, little daisy are you unhappy too?” he enquired. “Oh no,” replied the daisy, “When you planted your garden I think you wanted me in it, just as I am and so I’m going to be the best daisy I can be.” It may only be a story but it reminds us about the importance of being happy and content with what we have. So often we waste useless energy, wishing everything was different when in fact everything we want is within our reach.
