‘Love, like a river, will cut a new path whenever it meets an obstacle.’ ~ Crystal Middlemas

There is a story from Hindu folklore about a man who saw a scorpion struggling in a deep pool of water. He decided to try to save it by stretching out a finger but the creature instantly stung him. Again the man tried to remove the scorpion from the water but he was stung again. An onlooker urged him to give up and go home. But the man who was trying to rescue the scorpion said: “It is the nature of the scorpion to sting. It is my nature to love. Why should I give up my nature because it is contrary to the way of the scorpion?” Let’s face it there are lots of situations and people who sting us. Do we sting back or do we respond with love. The latter is the response of the Gospels. We are invited to love and to keep on loving even when others think it’s a waste of time.
