Casimir was the 3rd of 13 children born to King Casimir of Poland and his wife Elizabeth. He is known to his people as the ‘Peacemaker’ for refusing to wage an unjust war. Casimir vowed that he would never take up arms again against another Christian country and devoted himself to prayer and good works. He pleaded with his father to redress whatever he saw as an injustice being done to the poor and to pilgrims and captives. He died from TB at the age of 26. He was buried at Vilna which is now Vilnius captial of Lithuania. Miracles were soon reported at his tomb. He was formally decreed a patron saint of Lithuania in 1914.
Today is his feast day and we ask his many blessings on us. Amen
