‘The best thing you can do is the right thing; the next best thing you can do is the wrong thing; the worst thing you can do is nothing.’ ~Theodore Roosevelt
There is a lovely story by Bayazid that goes as following: “I was a revolutionary when I was young and all my prayer to God was ‘Lord, give me the energy to change the world.’ As I approached middle age and realized that half my life was gone without me changing a soul, I changed my prayer to, ‘Lord give me the grace to change all those who come in contact with me. Just my family and friends and I shall be satisfied.’ But now that I am in my latter years and my days are numbered, my one prayer is, ‘Lord give me that grace to change myself.’ If I had prayed for this right from the start I should not have wasted my life.” It would be a shame at any stage to say that we have wasted our lives. We can’t change anything in this world or those around us, unless we first are comfortable with change in our own lives.
