He is not one of the most famous of saints but this great reformer rescued Western monasticism from the many abuses that had crept into it over two centuries after the death of St.Benedict himself. His reforms lasted for centuries. He tried to remove motives for jealousy and to encourage charity. More emphasis was placed on scholarship, spiritual reading and study of scripture.

Today is his feast day and we ask his blessings on us. Amen
