Today is September 1st. I have been on holidays and today I gently begin to return to normal activities. It has been great to get away for a few weeks. For many the month of September marks the end of summer, the beginning of autumn and of course the start of the new school year.
September comes from the Latin word ‘septum’ which means seven. September used to be the seventh month of the year rather than the ninth. The Roman calendar was only 10 months long and included the following months: Martius, Aprilis, Maius, Junius, Quintilis, Sextilis, September, October, November, and December.
It wasn’t until 46 BCE, when Julius Caesar introduced the Julian calendar (named after Caesar, himself), that the year grew to include two more months, January and February. This explains why September was pushed out to be the 9th month!
It’s a new month and a new beginning and I pray God’s many blessings on you during this month of September.
