The first frosts had to come at some stage. It has been so mild up to now but over the weekend Jack Frost made its presence felt. One of the first flowers to fall to the wayside is the Nasturtium which is the flower in our photo today. But it certainly got a great run, flowering almost to the end of November.

Thought For The Week

‘Music is the great uniter. It is an incredible force. It is something that people who differ on everything and anything else can have in common.’ ~Sarah Dessen

We celebrated the feast of Cecilia over the weekend. She is the patroness saint of music and musicians. We take many things for granted but if we hadn’t music our world and lives would be very dull. Music is at the heartbeat of everyday life. There is music for every occasion. Every person has their favourite album and singer. There is such variety when it comes to music that everyone finds their favourite genre. In shopping centres easy listening is the normal choice to relax customers. It is used at airports to calm nervous passengers. Classical music has also been played in areas where graffiti or unsociable behaviour takes place. It has the desired effect of calming and reducing antisocial behaviour. Radio stations are constantly trying to woo us with music we will like. We all have our own unique taste of music and it is easy to find a station that suits us.

Today hundreds of songs can be stored in a portable device the size of a matchbox. The digital age has allowed music to become everyone’s best friend. We can make our own playlist and the options are endless. The downside to it all is that with access to endless amounts of music, we can take it all for granted. It could be easy not to appreciate it and perhaps forget that music is gift. Saint Cecilia is the patroness of music and musicians and a reminder how music is a precious gift from God. Music is indeed the pulse and heartbeat of life. Music is there for every occasion. It can uplift, calm and relax. It goes way beyond words. Today is a day to appreciate music and in particular your favourite type of music. What will you listen to today?
