Photo was taken at Drishane Road, Millstreet, Co.Cork (Irl)
Vodafone’s television ad over recent months and weeks is very clever. It starts with ‘Sue’ a little piglet who was found abandoned up on a mountain road. As the weeks have gone on she has become a household pet! She definitely has the ‘Aahh’ factor. Well I dug into my own archives and found this photo taken last summer. It was another piglet found abandoned on one of the main roads coming into Millstreet. There was lots of commotion as traffic ground to a halt while the little pig was eventually brought to safety. Even the Garda√≠ were called to make sure it all had a happy ending!

‘Anyone can catch your eye, but it takes someone special to catch your heart.’ ~Author Unknown
Last Sunday (Feb 14th) was St Valentine’s Day. Some may say it’s a whole load of hype but if you take away all the trimmings, you are left with that precious gift called love. Valentine’s Day is not just limited to romantic love. It’s a day that celebrates every moment of love. If we say God is love then every moment of love brings with it an energy and uniqueness that can’t be found anywhere else. It is we ourselves who do our best to limit the effects of love. Life knocks us and hurts us from time to time and we retreat into our hiding places. But love invites us back out of our darkness and uncertainties. Like many gifts that are given to us each day we tend to take love for granted. But Valentine’s day at least is one day when we realize just how lucky we are to have love in our lives. It takes a while to build up love but only a second to lose it.
Today or indeed any day during the coming weeks of Lent will be an opportunity to show someone how much they really mean to us. We thank God for that someone special in our lives. We all fall well short in living up to be a good husband, wife, partner, friend, carer or whatever word best sums up our situation. But we make an honest effort in bringing the best out of the person who means the world to us. Today we say thank you for the great blessings that genuine love can bring. For some today can be a sad day too because their someone special may have died. We remember them too today. We also remember most importantly how true love always has its roots in God. We celebrate on St Valentine’s Day God’s unique love for us. We are valuable because God loves us and nothing or no person can ever take that from any of us.
