As we gently say goodbye to Christmas we look forward in hope. We were reminded during Wednesday’s feast day of the Epiphany how the wise men went home in a different direction. They changed course, changed plans, adapted to changing circumstances and went with new beginnings.
All our lives have been changed because of Covid 19. During this current third wave of the pandemic many are fearful and worried. Many are wondering will it ever end. The wise men were led by God to safety, security and new beginnings. We pray for so many who are genuinely worried about the current situation, about loved ones in hospital and nursing homes and worried about their own safety.

The story of the wise men is fascinating. Like a jigsaw we only have a few of the pieces but we can still put together a very interesting picture of their story. The Epiphany is celebrated all over the world and yet their feast day (January 6th) comes at a time when most people are taking down their Christmas decorations!
It’s fair to say that story of the three wise men gets a bit lost. I always have a soft spot for the three wise men! Yes we know some bits about the story and there is also so much more we don’t know too. This adds to the mystery of the Magi and the reason why of their visit. I admire their sense of adventure, determination, courage, bravery and their willingness to take a risk. I am fully convinced their story has a message for all of us too especially during these difficult and challenging times that is Covid 19.
I have also put together a short video called ‘Who really were the three wise men?’ Here is the link: https://youtu.be/uAuq2CnfW3Y
